Boston Flummoxes Flyers in 6-0 Victory

Continuing their emphatic return following a 3-0 loss to the Seattle Kraken, the Boston Bruins (34-5-4) overwhelm the Philadelphia Flyers (18-19-7) with an offensive onslaught and a final score of 6-0.  Just coming off what is being heralded as “Game of the Year” where a late goal from defenseman Matt Grzeclyk gave Boston the lead and victory over divisional rivals the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Bruins sought to maintain their momentum and separate themselves further in the standings from Toronto.    Monday’s tilt was centerman David Krejci’s 1,000th played in the NHL - all with Boston.  Krejci’s tenure in Boston has managed to be both prolific and understated.  Krejci currently sits between Ken Hodge and Wayne Cashman for the 9th most points in Boston Bruins history.  His points total being heavily skewed towards assists (226-538-764) is indicative of the Czechia born veteran’s playstyle as an elite playmaker.  ...

Preview: Bruins vs. Toronto, 1/14/23

Following an uncharacteristic and unprecedented shutout loss on home ice to the invading Seattle Kraken, the Boston Bruins suit up against the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs for a high profile Saturday night tilt.   ____________________________________________ In what may well be their flattest performance of the year, Boston failed to generate any significant offensive momentum against Seattle and were unable to beat former - albeit short tenured -  Bruins goalie Martin Jones.  Jones has been a key piece to the Kraken’s recent success; Seattle is currently riding a seven game win streak in which Jones has gone 6-0-0, and posted an impressive .946 save percentage and 1.33 GAA.  With the disappointment of losing their first home game in regulation behind them, Boston will surely look to remind the league why they have not lost two games in a row this year. Boston has lost nine games so far this season: five in regulation, four in overtime or th...

Bruins @ Kings - January 5th, 2023

Take a nap and brew some coffee, because the Bruins are out West for another 10:30PM start.  With the fanfare of the Winter Classic settled, and an injured Jake DeBrusk emerging from the dust, Boston returns indoors to play the Los Angeles Kings for the second and final time of the season.  The Kings took two points over Boston in a shootout victory three weeks ago, giving the Bruins only their second OT loss of the season.  For those keeping score at home, the Bruins haven’t lost in regulation since 12/9 against Arizona - and even that required a more than questionable non-icing call with 14 seconds remaining.   The Kings have been busy since they last saw Boston, winning six of their last eight.  Now officially halfway through their season, L.A. holds a 22-13-6 record good enough for 2nd in the Pacific Division, 3rd in the Western Conference, and 7th in the league.  Their recent success has been in no small p...

Preview: November 1st 2022: Boston (8-1-0) @ Pittsburgh (4-4-0)

The Boston Bruins look to extend their five game winning streak and league leading record as they take on the Pittsburgh Penguins tomorrow evening at PPG Paints Arena.  Boston has sprinted out of the gates this season, breaking the franchise record for most wins in the opening nine games with an 8-1-0 record.  Depth scoring, stellar goaltending, and a new head coach have all greatly contributed to the team’s success; and with Brad Marchand and Charlie McAvoy soon expected to return to the lineup, the Bruins are looking to elevate their game even further.       Coming off two days of rest, a killer Halloween Party, and a seemingly effortless 4-0 shutout over the Columbus Blue Jackets, Boston looks poised to take two points out of Pittsburgh tomorrow night.  Pittsburgh finds themselves 7th in the Metropolitan division, and 14th in the Eastern Conference with their 4-4-1 record.  It’s been a tough week for the Penguins.  They...

Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci: Still great at hockey

There’s a buzz around this Boston Bruins team this year unique to that of years past.  With the return of veteran center David Krejci and the re-signing of captain Patrice Bergeron, the team has gone all in, possibly for the final time, with its offensive core that’s brought success to the Boston Bruins organization over the last sixteen years.  Beyond the optimism brewing among the TD Garden faithful, there exists a pessimistic, almost defeated attitude regarding the idea that these two signings are more a cause for concern than celebration.  Some claim that building a potential cup run around two aging centers is more indicative of desperation than of opportunity; with most of these claims not addressing just how valuable these centers have been, and will certainly continue to be, to the team’s success . Patrice Bergeron’s play is arguably better than ever; just coming off a Frank J. Selke Trophy winning season, Bergeron ran away with the voting where he received 83...

Bruins @ Canadiens, 04/24/22

Following an incredible tribute for the Montreal legend Guy Lafleur, with a standing ovation that went on for well over ten minutes, the Bruins and the Canadiens underwent their fourth and final matchup for the season.   Boston completed the season sweep against Montreal with a final score of 5-3. ___________________________ Marc McLaughlin and Mike Reilly returned to the line up with David Pastrnak and Hampus Lindholm being given the night off in the name of rest.  The latter two made their return last game in Boston’s 3-1 victory over potential - though unlikely - first round matchups the New York Rangers, with Pastrnak scoring the opening goal and Lindholm leading all Bruins players in time-on-ice with 24:41 played.  Boston’s first power play opportunity arose just over six minutes into the game as Joel Edmundson was called for tripping Conor Clifton.  Boston entered Sunday night’s game scoreless on their previous thirty-two power plays spanning ten ga...

Bruins @ Blues, 04/19/22

The Boston Bruins snapped St. Louis’ winning streak at nine games, defeating the Blues 3-2 in overtime.  After seeing Boston struggle to get their feet under them for a few games, it was promising to see all four lines play well in front of Jeremy Swayman, who has also begun to find his game again. Swayman started for Boston following his excellent outing against Pittsburgh where he made 23 stops on 24 shots, his best outing since his shutout against Los Angeles on February 28th.   Linus Ullmark, David Pastrnak, Hampus Lindholm, and Jesper Froden did not travel with the team, and are therefore unlikely to appear in the next three games for Boston.  The Bruins will return home on April 26th to play the absurdly red hot Florida Panthers.  ________________________ St. Louis struck first while on the man advantage, as several quick passes culminated in a goal from Pavel Buchnevich, his 11th straight game with at least one point.  St. Louis has be...
